This collection includes images and biographical information of roughly 210 individuals who immigrated to or were living in Thurston County, Washington Territory before 1870.
The information was collected by the Washington State Library Historical Department during the years 1917 to 1928. Paper forms were submitted for 210 individuals, many including information regarding spouses, children, and other relatives. The person, a spouse, or relative filled out forms or supplied information. Some of the information was likely obtained by recording remembered stories. The information on the forms were primarily handwritten; a few were typed. In some cases handwritted or typed notes accompanied the form with additional information; some notes were written on the backs of forms. Thurston County, Washington was home to Washington's territorial (now state) capital, Olympia, which was also the county seat. Washington Territory was created on March 2, 1853. Washington became a state on November 11, 1889.
