COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS
August 19th, 1902
Present: Mayor Peters, Councilmen Bovee, Holcomb and Shepley.
The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Holcomb; Be it resolved by the Council of the Town of Ritzville, that said Council is deeply grateful to Hon. D. Buchanan for the gift to the Town of Ritzville of his private library of about 400 volumes of valuable books.
Resolved further that said library be and is herby gratefully accepted by the Town of Ritzville, and shall be kept and maintained as a free public library under such rules and regulations as shall be from time to time adopted by the regularly constituted and acting councils of said town. Resolved further that a copy of these resolutions be engrossed and framed and hung in the room of place where said library shall be kept, so long as said library shall exist, as a mark of gratitude and esteem to the donor, and as a memorial of his generosity.
Resolved further, that said library be made the beginning and nucleus of a free public library of the Town of Ritzville, and that a suitable place for its maintenance be provided and maintained by the Town of Ritzville, with such rules and regulations for its governance and preservation as may be hereafter adopted.
That a copy of these resolutions be engraved and signed by the present mayor, Clerk, and councilman of the Town of Ritzville, and presented to Hon. D Buchanan, introduced and read at a regular meeting August 19th, 1902.
Passed by unanimous vote August 10th, 1902.
