Pen Etching of Inner Chamber of Ma¬ sonic Temple in Yakima, Washington.
We read in the sixth chapter of the First Book of Kings, that, "The door for the middle chamber was in the right side of the House; and they went up with winding stairs into the middle chamber, and out of the middle cham¬ ber into the third."
Out of this slender material has been construed an allegorical ascent and a symbolic payment of wages alleged justly due workman in the construc¬ tion work of the edifice of the coming race.
Symbolically, the workmen, the work, the House, the coming in and go¬ ing out, the wages, the middle chamber in which the wages are paid, are im¬ portant, but the winding stairs, around which the others revolve is also im¬ portant, in that it suggests the neces¬ sary progression from a lower to a higher concept, and a clearer recogni¬ tion of one man's relation to another, and to his Creator; if the importance of the middle chamber in the Masonic system is to be approximately appre¬ ciated, and the value of the Pen Etch¬ ing of the chamber by Blanche Mc¬ Lane Cook, recognized.
The Original Etching, is a gift of the artist to the Masonic Lodges of Yakima in memory of her father, Alva R. Mc¬ Lane.
Artist: Blanche Helen McLane Cook, (Mrs. Harry C. Cook.) Painter, (Oil); Drawing (Charcoal, Pencil, Pen and Ink); Honor Graduate Philadelphia School of Design for Women, now merged with the Moore Institute of Art, Science and Industry; Teacher of Art (Private Instruction) and Instruc¬ tor of art students of Yakima Valley Junior College; Listed in "Who's Who in Northwest Art".
